Summary
The parties to the divorce proceedings were both Russian nationals. They were married in Russia in 2002. In 2008, they came to live in England where they acquired habitual residence. On 23rd May 2013, a divorce petition was filed. The English court had jurisdiction, and the decree of divorce was granted. It should be noted that, despite the fact that the parties had obtained a divorce by the Russian Consulate in London on 30th April 2012, this could not be recognised in England.
