OPIS stands for Outcome Prediction In Subfertility.
There are three OPIS tools.
OPIS Pre IVF and OPIS Post IVF
were developed using patient and treatment data from all IVF cycles carried out in the UK from 1999 to 2009. All of the personal identifying information was removed from the data before being used in the creation of the tool.
This information was obtained from the Human Fertilisation and Embryological Authority (HFEA)
who collect and store data on all licensed fertility treatments in the UK.
OPIS1 was developed using patient and treatment data from couples who attended Aberdeen Fertility Clinic from 1998 to 2011. This information was obtained from the Aberdeen Fertility Clinic Database Steering Committee and the study was granted ethical permission from the North of Scotland Research Ethics Committee.
It is important to note that your predicted chances of having a baby calculated from the OPIS tool are not necessarily accurate. There are many other unmeasurable characteristics of patients which were not available when developing the tool that may improve or decrease your individual chance of having a baby. If you are concerned about your predicted chances then please consult your fertility clinician.
